Goals of the Reunion Committee

(This is a repost from the Facebook group, October 16th)

Hey guys!

I just wanted to let everyone know how our 20 year high school reunion planning is coming along. Deordre and I have been doing lots of intensive research on organizing successful class reunions since we officially kicked off the planning process a few weeks back.

Here are the 3 primary goals of the reunion planning committee:

(1) Bring together as many of our friends as possible. The primary reason we are having our 20 year high school reunion is to create a special event that enables all of us to catch up and see our old friends, no matter where they are now or how long it's been! Every reunion planner I spoke with said that the best reunions are those with the best turnout. Armed with that advice, we are doing our best trying to find everyone. We've had a lot of luck so far - f
ound about 2/3's of our class, but the search continues! I am going to post a "Missing Persons" list soon so that you guys can see who we still need to find. The more people we are able to find, the more people we are able to invite, and ultimately the more people we'll be able to party with at the reunion! Which is a good segue to our next goal...

(2) Create a fun & memorable event. We are planning all kinds of things for the reunion: class awards, raffles, photo galleries, video montages, class books, a memory wall. We are coming up with all kinds of things to help us remember our HSHP days and focusing on creative ways to evoke nostalgia and bring back all the good times we had together. Reunions are about memories: a room full of old friends, a good DJ playing the music we all liked from back in the day... if you have ideas, let us know or come and join the entertainment committee!

Finally, we are trying to (3) Remove barriers to entry. There are lots of reasons people might not want to come to their reunion. Cost. Inconvenience. Scheduling conflicts. Inertia. We are doing what it takes to take these barriers off the table. The worst thing would be if someone wanted to come but didn't know about it in time. We need every person here to be part of the Marketing Committee for our 20 year reunion - if you see someone from the Class of 93, bring it up! Tell them you're coming and that there's a whole lot of people that are looking forward to seeing them there, too. :)

I just wanted to share the 3 goals that Deordre and I are focused on. We have such an amazing class filled with some of the kindest, most interesting and most unique people in the world. We only get one 20 year high school reunion, so let's make it as fun and memorable as possible! Hopefully this planning process will kick off many future get-togethers, large and small. More to come! :)

20 years already?!

Welcome friends from the HSHP Class of 1993! Can you believe it's been 20 years already? We've got a little over 9 months until our 20 year high school reunion and we have a lot of great ideas planned. This is the website to check for the latest info.

We haven't locked in the exact date yet, but we are targeting a reunion dinner event on Friday, August 9, 2013.

Here's a status update:
  • 25-Sep-2012: Eileen and Deordre started searching for everyone in the class. Step 1: locate everyone in our class and get their current contact info so that we could send out invitations to everyone. This is an ongoing process. We've found most everyone on Facebook and anyone who was easy to find using Google, Yahoo! and Bing search. The search continues for our remaining friends. In just under 3 weeks, we've contacted 88 of our 137 graduates - about 2/3 of the class. Help us find the rest by checking out the Missing Persons list.
  • 25-Sep-2012 to 25-Oct-2012: We have been requesting proposals from various venues, DJ's and caterers in the Houston area. Attributes of what we're looking for:
    1. Attractive space with room for dining, dancing, and catching up
    2. High quality dinner food
    3. A cash bar
    4. A photo booth & DJ
    5. Central location near other nightspots so people can keep the party going after the reunion ends
We hope to be able to finalize a proposal by the end of this week, so stay tuned for more details!
